House Brickwork Repairs
Many of the brickwork repairs that we come across on brick built houses are going to be problems with pointing. Usually the mortar has crumbled, fallen out and soft to the touch. Other issues could be the bricks themselves that have blown or whole areas that have degraded over time. All these damaged bricks and mortar defects can be put right through our brickwork repair service. Older Victorian properties which were very well built indeed, may have some wear through natural ageing, most likely they are ok, but if you are worried about your brickwork, then please contact us for an expert opinion and consultation. If you are unfortunate to have more serious brickwork and structural problems affecting your house walls, such as, sagging walls or bulging walls, then these need to be dealt with more rapidly. It could be that certain bricks within your walls have begun to deteriorate and break up, this term is known as spalling or even brick blowing. The major cause of this is water ingression. This is where water and damp have entered the bricks and cannot escape anywhere. This in turn causes bricks and mortar to breakdown, crack, flake and blow. You can blame our ever changing British climate and the rain, wind and icy conditions for this, water enters the bricks, freezes, expands and then cracks the brick. Call us now if you are concerned about the brickwork on your house and we can take a look and see how we can remedy the situation for you. Chimney Repairs
Your chimney is not something that you think about or look at everyday. This is why it's easy for a brick chimney to become neglected and damaged over a period of time. This is a mistake because this structure on top of your house is important, even if you are not using the chimney anymore. Its easy to make a point to look up and check your chimney and take note, do the bricks look loose anywhere? or is the pointing between the brickwork missing in places and crumbling away?. If so, please take this into account and make sure the chimney is repaired sooner than later, as this can quickly become a dangerous and hazardous situation due to falling debris, if not repaired. We offer a few options and solutions when it comes to repairing any damaged chimneys or for totally replacing your existing chimney. Option 1) Totally replace your damaged or broken up chimney with a totally new, strong and sturdy chimney structure. Only needed if the existing chimney is unrepairable. Option 2) Repairing of your existing chimney, we clear all the existing debris like birds nests, plants, and replace and renovate any broken bricks and repoint the chimney. Replace and cement on a new cap. Option 3) This option is available to renovate the chimney pointing. Rake out the old mortar and replace by repointing the existing brickwork which will strengthen the whole structure for years to come. Brickwork Inspections
A regular inspection of your current brickwork condition can pay dividends in the long run, as it can prevent those expensive future repair bills that we all hate to receive. Things to look for are leaking and dripping guttering, this excessive water running down your walls can escalate into into major brickwork damage as the bricks are constantly exposed to these damp conditions. If rising damp is a problem that persists on your house structure, then this can can cause complications and ongoing brickwork damage, same as badly fitting window frames with gaps between them and the brickwork pointing. Basically anywhere water is allowed to enter and sit can induce a potential damage and defect. If one singular brick is cracked or blown and just left unattended for a length of time, without being repaired, it can spread the damage, as other surrounding bricks are exposed to water and ice expansion attacks. So keep an eye on your house external walls for any discrepancies or defects and call us sooner rather than later. We have the experience and know how to repair, maintain and assess any brickwork problems that may be blighting your property. Pointing and repointing Its easy to think that repointing is easy and you can try and do this yourself and save money. Please believe me when i say that pointing is more difficult that it looks. If you are a proud homeowner and would like you brickwork to look smart like the rest of your house, then do not attempt the DIY route. We see this so many times, a homeowner repoints their bricks, it soon becomes unsightly and looks nothing like the original pointing. Another problem with DIY pointing is the mortar mix needs to be spot on, otherwise if not correctly combined in the right ratio it can deteriorate rapidly when exposed to the elements, and will need repointing once again. The existing pointing also needs to be colour and shade matched to your new pointing as it will certainly look out of place on an external wall and stand out like a sore thumb. As i think you will now agree, pointing is not a simple straight forward job and certain criteria's need to be met, so everything is aesthetically pleasing on the outside of your house. Get your pointing or repointing done right first time around and get it completed by professionals, you will be very happy with the result and service that we provide.
